FieldTurf Sold a Lie to Its Customers
In 2005, FieldTurf began selling Duraspine, marketing it as revolutionary turf with "unmatched durability," allowing fields to last a decade or more.
According to the company, the surface's grass fibers would remain "standing up" like natural grass, even after repeated usage.
As early as 2006, however, FieldTurf executives became aware the turf was cracking, splitting, and breaking apart.

Big Promises
FieldTurf officials justified the cost by saying it would perform better and last longer than any other product on the market.

To date, one of every five Duraspine fields in the U.S. has been replaced because of premature deterioration.
